The ultrasound showed two soft markers for Down syndrome: a bright spot in the baby's heart (echogenic intracardiac focus), and a dilatation of the collecting system of the kidneys (renal pyelectasis).

Signe d'appel. En échographie, variations notées au cours de l'examen qui alertent l'examinateur à la possibilité d'un développement foetal anormal ou d'une maladie génétique. Ces signes d'appel peuvent suggérer une anomalie chromosomique telle une trisomie 21, une trisomie 13, une trisomie 18 ou encore une chondrodysplasie.

Petit signe. Le diagnostic de la trisomie 21 est souvent très difficile, et c'est pourquoi on se tourne vers les petits signes; cependant, la trisomie 21 est associée à 50 % des canaux atrioventriculaires; elle peut être suspectée devant une sténose duodénale, une omphalocèle.
