Somatics refers to our psychological awareness of our bodies, the extent to which we are "tuned in" to the sensations of smell, sound, sight, taste, and touch; the feelings of relaxation or tension in our muscles; the workings of our inner organs; feelings of pain; and all of our emotions.

La somatique est à la fois «l'art et la science des processus d'interaction synergétique entre la conscience, le fonctionnement biologique et l'environnement» [...] Le mot soma de racine grecque signifie le corps en tant qu'être vivant doté d'un esprit.
