"Sault Ste. Marie" is the contemporary spelling of the name of the city, thus an inhabited place, currently listed in the Gazetteer of Ontario; it is also the specific in "Sault Ste. Marie Canal (Ont.)", an historic canal managed by Parks Canada. The initial historic French spellings, "Sault-Sainte-Marie" and "Sault-Ste-Marie" have not been kept.
