The main caisson or column rising from the floating hull of a semi-submersible drilling unit to support the deck. Modern semi-submersible rigs have three, four, five or six stabilizer columns, sometimes separated by narrower intermediate columns which help to distribute the load. Stabilizer columns are made of large diameter tubes to give strength and stability to the structure when submerged or resting on the water. 1, record 1, English, - stabilizing%20column
