A brief overview of the evolution of parliamentary committees dealing with disability issues from their beginning to the present. The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities, 1997-2002, replaced the Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Status of Disabled Persons, 1989-1997. The Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Status of Disabled Persons combined the mandates of the two committees -- the Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Standing Committee on the Status of Disabled Persons. In 1995 the Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Status of Disabled Persons changed to the Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Status of Persons with Disabilities. The Standing Committee on the Status of Disabled Persons, 1987-1989, succeeded to the Sub-Committee on the Disabled and the Handicapped which was created in 1985 and to the Special Committee on the Disabled and Handicapped, created in the early 1980's. 3, record 1, English, - Standing%20Committee%20on%20the%20Status%20of%20Disabled%20Persons
