OBS

Formed at Riverview High School in January 1996, STAR speaks out against prejudicial and violent gang behaviors and encourages positive social activities. It recognizes that youth who often get involved in gangs are decent teenagers who have made negative choices. Working with a teacher coordinator and other community partners, including police, students plan fun activities and events that celebrate diversity and communicate a positive message of hope and friendship among students from all backgrounds. Over the next year, high school students throughout the province will be encouraged to develop programs similar to STAR promoting respect and understanding.

CONT

Martin and Tikvart (1968) developed a computer programme called STAR (STability ARray) which generated frequencies and percentage frequencies of wind direction by speed class for each stability category. This system has been found to give a good "first approximation" of the stability (instability) of the atmosphere where no low-level temperature and wind profile data exist. The STAR programme is available at the Atmospheric Environment Service and can be executed in a number of ways.
