An English statute (27 Hen. VIII, C.10) enacted in 1535, for the purpose of preventing the separation of legal and equitable estates in land, a separation that arose whenever a use was created at common law.

OBS

The purpose [of this statute] was to unite all legal and equitable estates in the beneficiary (the holder of the equitable estates) and to strip the trustee (the holder of the legal title) of all interest.
