apprêt raidisseur: a pour objet de remédier au manque de tenue, à l'aspect peu attirant, à un toucher désagréable d'un tissu. On utilise des produits comme l'amidon, les gommes et les produits synthétiques.

Les apprêts raidisseurs ou «apprêts raides»: Ils confèrent une certaine rigidité aux tissus pour jupons, cravates, triplures de cols ou poignets de chemises. Ils permettent également de fabriquer des tissus imitant l'organdi.
