Any of several highly specialized fishes constituting Echeneis and various related genera (order Discocephali), having the anterior dorsal fin converted into an oval transversely lamellate suctorial disc on the top of the head, by means of which they adhere firmly to sharks and other large fishes and to ships but are able to let go at will, and being distributed throughout tropical and warm temperate seas.
