Une drogue contre la maladie d'Alzheimer : c'est la tacrine, dont les premiers essais cliniques ont donné des résultats intéressants. Elle semble efficace chez un malade sur deux, c'est-à-dire qu'elle restaure les fonctions mentales de façon notable, mais elle doit être administrée à des doses relativement importantes (80 mg par jour) et elle est toxique pour le foie. Son autorisation de mise sur le marché en France est à l'étude.
