Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 DEF
A layer in the atmosphere where temperature increases with altitude instead of falling with height, and where the following characteristics can be observed: the layer is marked by its static stability and hence by the fact that very little turbulent exchanges can occur within it; strong wind shears often occur across it; abrupt changes in concentrations of atmospheric particulates and atmospheric water vapour may be encountered on ascending through it; the upward diffusion of gases is inhibited by it. 1, record 1, English, - temperature%20inversion
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
temperature inversion: this term is also used to denote the phenomenon by which that inversion layer is produced. 2, record 1, English, - temperature%20inversion

1, record 1, French, - zone%20d%27inversion%20de%20temp%C3%A9rature

Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The frequency, intensity and duration of temperature inversions in the atmosphere (when the temperature of the atmosphere increases instead of falling with height which has the effect of inhibiting the upward diffusion of gases) is a major factor influencing the dispersal of pollutants. 5, record 2, English, - temperature%20inversion

3, record 2, French, - inversion%20de%20temp%C3%A9rature
