Ensemble des mécanismes par lesquels les lymphocytes T apprennent à reconnaître les molécules d'histocompatibilité du soi (sélection positive), puis sont éliminés s'ils reconnaissent un auto-antigène (sélection négative). Ce processus est l'un de ceux à l'origine de la tolérance immunitaire, qui fait qu'un système immunitaire théoriquement apte à tout reconnaître, ne reconnaît pas l'organisme qui l'héberge sur un mode catastrophique.
