L'effet «Relief» réalise une «empreinte» de l'image originale. Il s'agit souvent [mais pas toujours] d'un résultat tridimensionnel. En principe toutes les informations de couleurs sont perdues lors de l'utilisation de cet effet. L'empreinte peut être obtenue dans ou sur une surface. Son épaisseur peut être définie avec des nombres : des valeurs positives représentent une projection de l'empreinte vers la surface, des valeurs négatives un «moulage» dans la surface.
