Tire-derived fuel (TDF) is composed of shredded scrap tires. Tires may be mixed with coal or other fuels, such as wood or chemical wastes, to be burned in concrete kilns, power plants, or paper mills.

La récupération de l'énergie est une autre option pour la transformation des pneus hors d'usage. Lorsqu'ils sont brûlés comme combustible, les pneus produisent des émissions de CO2 plus élevées que le pétrole et le gaz naturel, mais inférieures à celles du charbon. Dans les fours à ciment, l'utilisation de pneus entiers comme combustible dérivé des pneus (CDP) remplace non seulement des combustibles fossiles, mais contribue aussi à la production du ciment.
