A family of small moths usually having a stout body, oblong lightly fringed wings, threadlike antennae, and a tuft of scales at the end of the abdomen, many of the larvae being leaf rollers and others living in various fruits and galls.

Les Tortricidés ont une grande importance économique, car certaines espèces sont de redoutables ravageurs dans le monde entier. Ce sont des papillons, de taille réduite, aux ailes rectangulaires, parfois vivement colorées. Les chenilles vivent, pour la plupart, à l'intérieur de feuilles qu'elles ont réunies en fourreaux, par des fils de soie (d'où leur nom de «tordeuse»).
