The total age of the aboveground stem of the tree in years.

OBS

Total age is usually the annual ring count to the pith of the tree at breast height plus an estimate of the number of years it took the tree to reach breast height.

À la fin de l'été, l'arbre ne produit plus de cellules de bois. Il préfère mettre son énergie à se faire des réserves et à produire des bourgeons. Le bois final et le bois initial sont de couleur différente. C'est grâce à cela qu'on distingue les anneaux de croissance. Chaque année, l'arbre produit un anneau de bois. On peut donc connaître l'âge d'un arbre en comptant ces anneaux.
