With respect to beef, the law is applied in a similar fashion, except that the trigger level is set at 117% of total imports for the corresponding period of the previous year only. This level, totalling 97,244 tonnes of frozen beef for the first quarter of the fiscal year, was reached, and consequently the Japanese import tarif on frozen beef was increased from 46.2% to 50% for the rest of the fiscal year.
