The ultra-rapid fluidized (URF) reactor impacts jets of a hot (1000 °C) particulate heat carrier onto a jet of cold particulate carbonaceous feedstock to effect rapid pyrolysis through thermal shock. Biomass, heavy oils and asphalts have been pyrolyzed in a mini-pilot plant. Scale-up has been studied on cold models. The objective is to produce chemical intermediates for the synthesis of petrochemicals and transportation fuels.

Le réacteur ultra-rapide fluidisé (URF) lance des jets de caloporteur finement divisé contre un jet de produit carbonacé finement divisé et froid pour le pyrolyser sous l'effet du choc thermique. La biomasse, les huiles lourdes et les asphaltes ont été pyrolysés dans un mini-pilote. L'extrapolation a été étudiée sur des modèles froids. On vise éventuellement la synthèse des carburants et des produits pétrochimiques.
