Lors des premières fabrications de cuve à la fin des années 1970, des fissurations à froid sous revêtement ont été trouvées dans les tubulures d'entrée et de sortie. Cette fissuration résultait de la présence de ségrégations, de la géométrie particulière de ces pièces et des pratiques de soudage de l'époque. Des zones ségrégées en carbone et autres éléments d'alliage (veines sombres) étaient présentes près de la peau à revêtir.
