Canada is working through many international organizations and instruments to strengthen measures to protect the marine environment, including global fish stocks. In particular, the 1995 United Nations Agreement on Straddling and Highly Migratory Fish Stocks (commonly called the United Nations Fish Stocks Agreement, or UNFA) provides the framework for the conservation and management of straddling and highly migratory fish stocks in high seas areas regulated by RFMOs. It carries an obligation to apply the precautionary approach and ecosystem-based management, as well as to minimize pollution, waste and discards of fish. 1, record 1, English, - United%20Nations%20Agreement%20on%20Straddling%20and%20Highly%20Migratory%20Fish%20Stocks

1, record 1, French, - Accord%20des%20Nations%20Unies%20sur%20les%20stocks%20de%20poissons%20chevauchants%20et%20grands%20migrateurs
