Created in 1966, a permanent subsidiary body of the United Nations dedicated to progressively harmonizing and unifying international trade laws worldwide. UNCITRAL's primary activities include coordinating the work of all international bodies working in the field of international commercial law; preparing international conventions dealing with aspects of the field for signing by nations; and promoting an understanding of international law and of the means of ensuring the interpretation and application of international conventions.
