Les prépositions, en français, sont surtout des mots-outils; elles n'ont pas la pleine valeur sémantique des prépositions anglaises qui tiennent souvent lieu de commandements, d'indications, etc. Ainsi, pour les ascenseurs, l'anglais indique la direction par les prépositions UP/DOWN. En français on peut rendre la même idée de deux façons : 1) Par le nom d'action abstrait : Up - MONTÉE Down - DESCENTE. C'est la solution qu'on adopte pour les indications écrites. 2) Par le verbe : Up - On monte Down - On descend. Cette forme appartient plutôt à la langue parlée.
