Wernicke's aphasia causes difficulty speaking in coherent sentences or understanding others' speech. Wernicke's aphasia is the most common type of fluent aphasia.

[...] l'«aphasie de Wernicke» [...] se manifeste par un déficit majeur de la compréhension du langage, par une perte de contrôle par le patient de ses propres productions (anosognosie), et entraîne de multiples paraphasies, phonémiques ou verbales, sans troubles arthriques [...], voire une logorrhée et (ou) une jargonaphasie indéchiffrable par autrui. Les troubles du langage oral s'accompagnent souvent, à des degrés variables toutefois, de dysfonctionnements dans la production et (ou) la compréhension du langage écrit (agraphie, alexie…).
