The western jumping mouse is larger and more robust than the eastern species, Zapus hudsonius. Its head and back are olive-brown; its flanks are yellowish buff, streaked with black hairs; it has white underparts; the lateral line is yellowish. The feet are grey, and the ears are dusky with buffy rims. The tail is brown above, pale grey below, without a white tip. ...
