Wildlife ’87 was officially launched in December 1986 by the Minister for Environment Canada. Its goal was to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first wildlife sanctuary established in North America at Last Mountain Lake, Saskatchewan on June 8, 1887. The focus of Wildlife ’87 was on the conservation of wildlife and its habitat. The Canadian Wildlife Service in Ottawa was responsible for Wildlife ’87.

Faune 1987 est un thème lancé en décembre 1986 par le ministre d’Environnement Canada pour commémorer le centenaire du premier refuge d’oiseaux migrateurs en Amérique du Nord qui remonte au 8 juin 1887. Ce refuge fut créé au lac Last Mountain, en Saskatchewan. Faune 1987 avait comme objectif la conservation de la faune et de son habitat et relevait du Service canadien de la faune situé à Ottawa.
