The secondary X-ray emission that results when electrons from the outer orbitals of an atom fill vacant inner orbital positions originally created by X- or gamma-ray excitation.

CONT

Analytical techniques such as X-ray fluorescence, inductively coupled plasma emission spectroscopy, and atomic absorption spectroscopy are being utilized to assess the technical, and environmental constraints imposed by the unique profiles of Canadian fuel sources.

These X-rays are characteristic of excited atoms.

Il s'agit de prélever un échantillon et de se livrer sur celui-ci aux opérations classiques d'analyses chimiques (fluorescence X ou absorption atomique).

OBS

En mélangeant 4 grammes de poudre et 12 de fondant, on fabrique plusieurs pastilles ou perles. Sur l'une d'elles, l'appareil envoie un faisceau de rayons X primaires; dans les cristaux, certains électrons des atomes ou ions changent de niveau d'énergie, avec émission de rayons «secondaires», dont le spectre est analysé progressivement. On obtient ainsi un dosage des éléments «majeurs» [...] et «mineurs» [...] contenus dans l'échantillon.
