La nifédipine est un inhibiteur calcique (antagoniste calcique) dont le rôle est d'empêcher l'entrée du calcium, et plus spécifiquement la diffusion des ions calcium, dans les cellules du myocarde (muscle cardiaque) et dans les cellules des muscles lisses composant les parois des vaisseaux. Le résultat est une vasodilatation (augmentation du calibre des vaisseaux) et donc une action antispasmodique (action contre la fermeture du calibre des vaisseaux) ainsi qu'une baisse de la capacité de contraction (ou contractilité) du myocarde à l'origine d'une diminution de la consommation en oxygène de ce tissu. 2, record 1, French, - nif%C3%A9dipine
