8-methoxypsoralen (8-MOP) is a naturally occurring photoreactive substance which, in the presence of u.v. lignt, forms covalent adducts with pyrimidine bases in nucleic acids. For many years, 8-MOP has been used in PUVA therapy for treatment of psoriasis.
