Les «gaines de retour» semblent acheminer au générateur l'air de reprise et l'air neuf.

L'auteur du Dictionnaire technique du bâtiment et des travaux publics (BABAT) préfère l'emploi de «conduit» à celui de «gaine». Cependant, dans le chauffage à air chaud, l'utilisation du terme «gaine», unité ou syntagme, est très fréquente.
