Launched in 1993 as the Alberta Electric League, the association operated in two divisions - the CEC [Calgary Electric Club] and the Capital Region Electric Club. In 2017, the clubs joined forces to become the Alberta Electrical Association.

ECAA provides many services for its members such as representation on various government and industry boards, labor negotiations, special seminars for specialized applications and management skills, industry meetings and conventions. ECAA also helps its members handle problems with inspection authorities, general contractors and the like. The ECAA is the electrical industry's information centre and what happens legislatively is of the utmost importance to the Associations' Membership. Since 1967 the Association has represented contractors at all levels of Government.
