La myopathie alcoolique aiguë survient surtout chez les grands alcooliques et elle est souvent déclenchée par un excès massif d'alcool. Les signes fonctionnels sont d'installation brutale. L'examen des masses musculaires intéressées (spécialement, cuisses et ceinture pelvienne) les révèle tendues, oedematiées, très sensibles à la palpation et à la pression. La réalité des lésions musculaires est établie par la constatation de myoglobine ou de ses dérivés protéiques dans les urines.
