Il existe également des algorithmes dits fréquentiels permettant d'obtenir des taux importants de compression du son numérisé. Signalons un algorithme mis au point par le CNET qui utilise la transformée TDAC («Time Domain Aliasing Cancellation»). À partir de 1024 échantillons successifs codés sur 16 bits chacun, cette transformée permet de calculer les 512 coefficients associés à 512 bandes de fréquence régulièrement espacées dans le spectre entre 40 Hz et 15 000 Hz. Les blocs sont entrelacés pour assurer une meilleure continuité du codage. La reconstruction du signal sonore est réalisée par une fonction de filtrage pour chaque fenêtre.
