English

Subject field(s)
  • Optics
  • Remote Sensing
CONT

The group of electrons required for a unit output is termed the analogue-to-digital unit (ADU) and the number of electrons is termed the gain.

French

English

Subject field(s)
  • Electronics
DEF

An electronic process in which a continuously variable (analog) signal is changed, without altering its essential content, into a multi-level (digital) signal.

CONT

In analog-to-digital conversion, continuously varying functions (e.g. the output of a microphone) are transformed into digital sequences from which one then hopes to be able to reconstruct a close approximation to the original function.

CONT

Analogue-to-digital conversion (ADC) involves the conversion of the analogue voltage levels of an analogue signal into ones and zeros of a digital word. It is normally conducted by taking regular samples of the analogue signal and converting the voltage level into a binary value.

Key term(s)
  • analog to digital conversion

French

Domaine(s)
  • Électronique
DEF

Record 3 2005-09-13

English

Subject field(s)
  • Electronic Components
  • Information Processing (Informatics)
DEF

A device which translates continuous analog signals into proportional discrete digital signals.

CONT

Analog-to-digital converters (ADC) change an analog input (such as a signal from a pressure transducer) into a digital word, while digital-to-analog converters (DAC) change a digital word into an analog signal (such as a dc voltage representing the pressure, the flow of water in a pipe, etc.).

OBS

analog-to-digital converter; ADC; A/D converter: terms and abbreviation standardized by CSA International.

OBS

analog-to-digital converter: term standardized by ISO.

Key term(s)
  • analog to digital converter

French

Domaine(s)
  • Composants électroniques
  • Traitement de l'information (Informatique)
DEF
