L'image à imprimer étant généralement conçue pour couvrir un support plat (affiche, magazine, etc.), l'anamorphose consiste à déformer l'image créée sur la forme imprimante cylindrique. Cette déformation permet ensuite de restituer une image aux bonnes dimensions lors du contact de la forme imprimante cylindrique avec le support d'impression plan.

OBS

Ce procédé est notamment utilisé en flexographie ou en héliographie, procédés d'impression pour lesquels la forme imprimante est un cylindre en creux ou relief.

These images must be expanded (un-squeezed) by the display device. An increasing number of TVs employ either a screen with 16:9 aspect ratio, or some type of "enhanced-for-widescreen" viewing mode, so that anamorphic and other widescreen material can be viewed in its proper proportions.
