El rape [pez de la familia Lophiidae], es el nombre común de unos 265 peces marinos emparentados, que tienen unos apéndices semejantes a cañas de pescar o señuelos, con los cuales atraen a sus presas. El rape común se distribuye a lo largo de las costas de Europa y América del Norte, desde las Islas Británicas y Nueva Escocia hasta Barbados. Estos peces alcanzan más de 1,5 m de longitud. Viven en el fondo oceánico, y se arrastran por él (mediante unas aletas pectorales modificadas) para buscar alimento. Con su boca enorme y su estómago extensible, un rape puede engullir otro pez de su mismo tamaño. Otros rapes son los peces murciélago, los peces rana y los sapos de mar.
