ANION EXCHANGE [7 records]

Record 1 2004-10-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Soil Science
DEF

The total amount of exchangeable anions that a soil can adsorb. It is expressed as milliequivalents per 100 g of soil or other adsorbing material such as clay.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Science du sol
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemistry
  • Water Treatment (Water Supply)
  • Soil Science
  • Analytical Chemistry
DEF

The displacement of an anion bound to a site on the surface of a solid by an anion in solution.

DEF

A type of ion exchange in which the immobilized functional groups on the solid resin are positive.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Chimie
  • Traitement des eaux
  • Science du sol
  • Chimie analytique
DEF

Record 3 1999-06-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Electrochemistry
DEF

A resin that holds and swaps only anions. Anion resins contain hydroxyl ions (OH-) to remove negatively-charged, dissolved ionic contaminants such as carbonates, bicarbonates, sulfates, nitrates and silica.

CONT

Other important applications of ion exchange are water softening and ... demineralization ... [in which] all ionic impurities contained in water are removed by exchange for hydrogen and hydroxyl ions during passage of the water successively through cation- and anion-exchange resins in the acid and base form.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génie chimique
  • Électrochimie
DEF

Résine qui échange uniquement les anions.

CONT

CONT

In 1979, William Bauman at Dow Chemical Company suggested a way to remove the background eluent using a second ion exchange column, and thus permit detection of analyte ions with a highly sensitive conductivity detector (micromhos). This second column is called the suppressor column. For anion analysis, this is a cation exchange column in the acid form; and for cation analysis, it is an anion exchange column in the base form.
