Cette nouvelle génération de matériaux est basée sur la coexistence d'une phase douce et d'une phase dure, intimement couplées par les interactions d'échange grâce à une structure cristallographique très finement divisée, à l'échelle du nanomètre : on parle alors de matériaux nanocomposites.
