[...] el disulfiram inhibe la aldehído deshidrogenasa que es una enzima que cataliza la reacción de oxidación del acetaldehído, que es el primer producto de metabolización del alcohol, e impide su transformación en ácido acético. La acumulación de aldehído da lugar a un cuadro clínico muy típico y muy molesto para el paciente con: náuseas, vómitos, sudoración profusa, taquicardia, etc. Es el llamado efecto antabús.
