An inflatable garment designed to apply pressure to the legs and the abdomen to retard the flow of blood to the lower body and to augment the return of blood thence to the thoracic cavity under conditions of "positive" (+Gz) acceleration.

A g-suit, also called an antigravity suit, is used to decrease the incidence of orthostatic intolerance in astronauts upon re-entry to Earth's atmosphere and upon landing. ... The g-suit uses air-inflated sacs around the legs and abdomen to increase blood flow from the lower legs to the upper extremities.

La combinaison anti-G comporte un gilet et un pantalon. Ces deux éléments comportent des vessies reliées à des tuyauteries. La tuyauterie des vessies de pantalon est reliée à la valve anti-G, la tuyauterie des vessies de gilet est reliée à une valve alimentant le masque en oxygène respirable. Le fonctionnement est le suivant. En cas de mouvement de l'avion provoquant une accélération longitudinale dirigée de la tête vers les pieds du pilote, l'accéléromètre à masselotte provoque l'ouverture progressive de la valve anti-G et de la valve de mise en surpression du masque à oxygène. L'ouverture de la valve anti-G provoque le gonflage des vessies de pantalon appliquant ainsi aux membres inférieurs du pilote une pression empêchant l'accumulation du sang dans les veines. L'ouverture de la valve de surpression d'oxygène provoque au niveau du masque et du gilet une surpression. La surpression respiratoire interne induite dans le masque et donc, à l'intérieur de la poitrine du pilote est compensée par la surpression externe à la poitrine du pilote induite dans les vessies de gilet. Pour éviter les lésions, les pressions internes et externes doivent rester égales.

The anti-g suit system actuator design is similar to the dynamic seat actuator design. It is a combination of hydraulic and pneumatic actuators. The suit is inflated pneumatically; however, the air is controlled by a hydraulic actuator which acts on a control bellows which maintains the proper airflow to the suit. This technique provides the suit with very good pressure response during both inflation and deflation. Such response would be difficult with pneumatic control alone. Similar to the seat and lap belt, the system includes position feedback.
