ANTICOAGULANT [19 records]

Record 1 2015-09-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Medication
CONT

Caution should be exercised when coumarin anticoagulants are given in conjunction with Tricor because of the potentiation of coumarin-type anticoagulant effects in prolonging the Prothrombin Time/International Normalized Ratio (PT/INR).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Médicaments
CONT

Record 8 2006-05-08

English

Subject field(s)
  • Medication
DEF

A drug used to prevent the formation of blood clots by hindering coagulation of the blood.

CONT

Blood-thinners (anticoagulants) have various uses. Some are used for the prophylaxis (prevention) of thromboembolic disorders; others are used for the treatment of thromboembolism. Anticoagulant solutions are also used for the preservation of stored whole blood and blood fractions. Anticoagulants are also used to keep laboratory blood specimens from clotting.

CONT

Distinctions are made between: 1. Oral anticoagulants - of coumarin type, which inhibit the synthesis of vitamin-K-dependent coagulation factors in the liver - thrombocyte aggregation inhibitors, which exert their effect by inhibiting aggregation of blood platelets 2. Intravenous or subcutaneous "heparinoid" anticoagulants.

... you can add 50 to 100 ml of 0.9% sodium chloride to the bag to make RBCs less viscous. No other diluents are suitable. The simplest way to add 0.9% sodium chloride is through Y tubing. Red blood cells preserved with an additive solution (such as Adsol) that decreases viscosity (as opposed to citrate-phosphate-dextrose-adenine [CPDA]) won't need diluting.

Subject field(s)
  • Immunology
DEF

A substance present in the blood which inhibits normal blood clotting and thus may cause a hemorrhagic syndrome; it may be directed against a specific coagulation factor and may accompany various hematologic and nonhematologic diseases.

CONT

"Lupus anticoagulants" were first described ... in 5-15% of patients with lupus erythematosus (SLE). However, they have been observed in a variety of other medical entities, such as other autoimmune disorders, drug reactions, neoplastic, neurologic, and gynecologic diseases, as well as in healthy individuals and in AIDS.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Immunologie
DEF
