Les cellules malignes expriment à leur surface des antigènes qui leur sont propres ou du moins qui sont absents du tissu normal de même provenance au même stade de différenciation. Ces antigènes sont à l'origine de réactions immunitaires humorales et cellulaires analogues à celles qui viennent d'être décrites vis-à-vis des allogreffes. La grande question posée dans l'immunologie du cancer est de savoir si certaines de ces réactions jouent un rôle dans la protection vis-à-vis de la tumeur.
