"Our Beginnings" was originally created by Thompson as a logo for the 1997 North American Indigenous Games. The image has been generously donated by the artist to a new program to be used as its visual identity. The program, the first of its kind in Canada, is committed to teaching and research that respects both western and indigenous traditions and forms of knowledge. [New Beginnings Association] is a non-profit association under the management of a volunteer parent board that provides vocational day support services, which challenges the unique strengths and needs of adults who have mental and/or physical disabilities to enhance their quality of life. New Beginnings for Youth is an Ottawa based not-for-profit charitable organization serving the needs of youth since 1986. It offers a variety of programs that encourage life long learning outside of the traditional classroom. A small team of professional staff are supported by a wide range of multi-disciplined volunteers. A dedicated team of volunteer Board members ensures that programs continue to effectively meet the changing needs of youth. As a charitable organization, the programs are supported through bingos, special events, project grants, private donations and cafe revenues. Le programme «Jeunesse en relance (JER)» dont les activités se déroulent à Ottawa et à Cornwall, vise les adolescents qui sont considérés comme des décrocheurs potentiels.
