Sur les fruits verts on remarque tout d'abord de grandes plages de tissus durs grisâtres ou jaunâtres. Les fruits ne rougissent pas uniformément, les plages restent grises ou deviennent jaunes, ce qui donne une apparence caractéristique de fruits mal mûris. Lorsque l'on tranche des tomates qui montrent les symptômes de maturation inégale on remarque une coloration brunâtre des tissus vasculaires. (Maladies de la tomate et du céleri).
