Flood irrigation in which land is divided into border strips and water is delivered into each strip from a head or field ditch at its upper end.

Water application efficiency was not affected by a change in the size of irrigation stream used; but the water was applied more uniformly on border-ditch irrigation when larger streams were used.

Entre les diguettes, le terrain doit être parfaitement nivelé; la pente longitudinale et l'écartement des diguettes sont fixés une fois pour toutes, ce qui oblige à utiliser toujours le même module. À la sortie des pertuis il faut une partie plate pour que l'eau s'étale.

Irrigation des planches par levées - Cette méthode consiste à construire, dans le sens de la pente du champ, des levées parallèles de 4 à 6 po (10 à 15 cm) de haut espacées de 30 à 65 pi (9 à 20 m) l'une de l'autre. (...) L'eau est introduite dans la planche à son extrémité supérieure puis s'étend entre les levées pour couvrir toute la planche. Ce système peut être utilisé pour toutes les sortes de cultures et convient particulièrement bien aux cultures fourragères.
