CONT

For the first time wellbore casing can serve as more than just a barrier between the inside and the outside of wellbore. [The] casing expansion technology ... can be employed for annular sealing, zone isolation and improved sealing of casing within casing.

Key term(s)
  • well bore casing
  • bore hole casing

  • Drilling and Boring (Construction)
  • Boring and Drilling (Mines)
  • Oil Drilling
DEF

A hole of small diameter, formed by drilling, either for soil survey, for the placing of blasting charges, or to obtain water or oil.

OBS

borehole: term officially approved by the Engineering Terminology Working Group.

Domaine(s)
  • Sondage et forage (Construction)
  • Sondage et forage miniers
  • Forage des puits de pétrole
DEF

Record 3 2008-09-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Hydrology and Hydrography
  • Geology
CONT

In the single borehole dilution technique the tracer (e.g. a bromide or chloride salt) is mixed uniformly into the borehole standing water column and the concentration then measured by lowering an appropriate probe. The rate at which fluid is diluted or flushed out of the water column allows for the assessment of aquifer permeability and flow profiles with depth in the vicinity of boreholes.

CONT

Borehole dilution techniques use repeated fluid column profiling after establishment of an initial uniform condition to monitor the rate at which ambient ground water moves into a borehole.

  • bore hole dilution technique
  • bore-hole dilution technique

Record 4 2004-12-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Treatment of Wood
DEF

Essentially a diffusion treatment, in which holes several inches deep and generally sloping downwards are bored at intervals into timber of high moisture content - or even into living trees - and a concentrated preservative in liquid or paste form is then introduced, sometimes under pressure (as by a bolt-hole treater), spreading thence by diffusion.

Key term(s)
  • bore hole treatment

French

Domaine(s)
  • Traitement des bois
DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Waste Management
  • Nuclear Waste Materials
CONT

Figure 12 outlines the boreholes option. In this method: . wastes are placed below-grade in concrete "pipes"; . a deep cover of soil or concrete is placed over the wastes and is then capped by a steel cover; . structural stability is provided by the concrete disposal units; and . the voids between the waste containers are filled with soil.

CONT

Boreholes. Description. Another disposal method that in some ways parallels engineered trenches is the use of holes in the ground for disposal. At Ontario Hydro's Bruche Station LLW is stored in holes formed by arranging vertical concrete pipes in an array and then filling the space between then with soil.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Gestion des déchets
  • Déchets nucléaires
CONT

Stockage en formation géologique. [...]
