A granulomatous mass occurring in botryomycosis; a chronic S. aureus infection of skin, lung, or bone that produces granules resembling those seen in actinomycosis, and enterocolitis. These infections are rarely seen today.

Un ongle est incarné lorsqu'il s'incruste dans les tissus qui limitent ses bords latéraux. Le premier orteil est de loin le plus fréquemment atteint. Les causes n'en sont pas toujours évidentes: chaussures trop serrées, mauvaise coupe de l'ongle, conformation particulière sont généralement incriminées. Les conséquences en sont des douleurs, surtout à la pression, une difficulté à se chausser, et souvent une réaction inflammatoire et une infection. Ces deux phénomènes stimulent la production d'un tissu de cicatrisation formant bourrelet (le botryomycome) qu'accentue la macération.
