Sur les fruits, l'infection commence habituellement à la pointe florale ou au bout du pédoncule; quand l'humidité est forte, une croissance de champignons de couleur grisâtre s'installe rapidement, et une pourriture molle aqueuse gâte le fruit. Sur les tiges, l'infection commence d'ordinaire par l'installation du champignon sur le tissu mourant, à la base des pétioles de la feuille ou à la souche des pétioles après la chute des feuilles.
