A cheque that a bank returns to the issuer due to insufficient funds in the issuer's account.

A check which a bank returns because it is not payable due to insufficient funds. Also called rubber check.

OBS

What do I do about a bounced cheque? A cheque can be 'bounced' for a number of reasons which include, insufficient funds in the account its being drawn on, it has been cancelled by the drawer (the person who wrote the cheque) or a technical reason (unsigned, wrong date, amount, etc.) fraud (maybe it is a stolen cheque).

Les frais pour chèque sans provision [...] Les frais pour paiements sans provision ont fait l'objet de discussions lors de l'élaboration de l'entente nationale. L'article 9 du cadre harmonisé interdit aux agences de recouvrement de recouvrer un montant supérieur à celui de la dette, sans apporter de précisions au sujet de ces frais.

Selon les sources et les personnes-ressources consultées, «frais de» est la forme la plus fréquemment employée dans le domaine de la banque. On relève moins fréquemment «frais pour» dans des textes officiels du domaine.
