The GCS aims to optimise several aspects of a conventional C-section, to mimic a vaginal delivery. This is with a view to improving the mother's experience and decreasing morbidity for both mother and child.

En créant une atmosphère plus intime, la césarienne participative permet d'impliquer davantage les parents. La maman peut par exemple se rendre en marchant en salle d'opération, accompagnée du co-parent (dans le cas d'une césarienne classique, elle arrive seule, couchée sur un lit, et le co-parent ne la rejoint qu'après l'anesthésie). Les parents peuvent choisir une musique et la lumière peut être tamisée. La position du champ opératoire, c'est-à-dire du tissu stérile délimitant la zone de l'intervention chirurgicale, est adaptée afin de permettre à la maman de voir l'arrivée du bébé.
