English

Subject field(s)
  • Petrography
  • Geochemistry
DEF

A metamorphic rock consisting mainly of calcium-bearing silicates such as diopside and wollastonite, and formed by metamorphism of impure limestone or dolomite.

CONT

It has been observed that calc-silicate metamorphic rocks and basic and ultrabasic rocks tend to contain Mg-phlogopites, while acid igneous rocks, schists, and gneisses tend to contain the more iron-rich biotites.

OBS

calc-silicate rock: term used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Sciences Sector.

Domaine(s)
  • Pétrographie
  • Géochimie
CONT

OBS

Record 3 2004-08-24

English

Subject field(s)
  • Mineralogy
  • Geochemistry
CONT

The orebodies are characterized by the development of calc-silicate minerals such as diopside, wollastonite, andradite garnet, actinolite, and so on.

OBS

calcsilicate: A group of minerals whose bulk composition consists of calcium silicates. Common calcsilicates include the minerals wollastonite ..., the calcium garnet grossularite, and the pyroxene diopside.

Subject field(s)
  • Geochemistry
  • Metals Mining
  • Petrography
CONT

Metamorphic studies indicate that the previously crystallized calc-silicate gangue in pyrometasomatic deposits formed at temperatures approaching those of the associated magmatic intrusion.

  • Géochimie
  • Mines métalliques
  • Pétrographie

Subject field(s)
  • Geochemistry
  • Petrography
  • Metals Mining
DEF

A thermally metamorphosed impure limestone or dolomite.

CONT

Scheelite occurs commonly in an essentiallly stratiform almandine-hedenbergite exoskarn assemblage that metasomatically overprints and replaces earlier, metamorphic calc-silicate hornfels.

OBS

The[metamorphosed] rock has been recrystallised and the bulk of it is in the form of various calcium and/or magnesium-containing silicates.

OBS

Hornfelses are described by prefixing the names of significant minerals or mineral groups, e.g. garnet-hornfels, pyroxene-hornfels, calc-silicate hornfels ...
